day at the zoo

The first time I realized I how beautiful animals truly are was when Mr. Lovelee and I went to Australia for our honeymoon, 7 years ago.  We visited the Sydney zoo and got to see Koalas up close and then in Cairns we got to actually touch one at a crocodile farm.  And when we went snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, a family of dolphins were jumping in and out of the water alongside us.

Anyways, so here's another backward inspiration.  I was working on a preschool yearbook page and wanted to use some of my original art.  I noticed that most of my art was a little too girl-centric, so I remade one of my art pieces with elephants.

And then we went to Tacoma for the first time (yes for the first time ever!  We've been living in Seattle for five years now).  The Point Defiance Zoo was really cute.  My favorites were the arctic foxes, which actually looked like snow white pomeranian dogs, and feeding the goats in the kid's zoo.   And I always have a soft spot for the elephants.

I think for my next project I'm gonna do a walrus.  They are amazingly big.  I had no idea.  And this particular walrus wanted to get right up close and personal.  Beautiful!

backwards inspiration

I drew this image a little while ago and I remember looking through dozens of photos of tree tunnels and couldn't really find what I was looking for, so I kind of made it up.

But then I found this image today and this was exactly the look I was going for.  The actual trees aren't as curved on top, but I thought it was pretty cool that I could replicate my artwork into a real life photo if I wanted.  I'd just have to fly to Belgium... but that is not a bad thing!

Custom portraits

I've been really busy these past few weeks with some commissioned art and personal projects.  Here's a quick peek at what I'm working on.

Wedded bliss

LOVELEES
Married January 8, 2005

I cannot believe we have been married for this long.  Time sure flies when you're having fun.
Thanks Mr. Lovelee for the 7 of the most wonderful years ever!

Here are just a few details from our wedding reception.  We got married over 7 years ago, when wedding blogs didn't even exist.  Almost everything was DIY and I won my dress on ebay for $200 (original price $2000!), but I have to say, we managed to have a really lovely wedding and I love every decision we made.

But that's not to say that if I had my wedding today that it would look like this.
Debbie, hurry up and get engaged so I can plan another wedding with a completely different look....

this year was the first time i tried to incorporate calligraphy with my christmas card making.   it took a little of bit of planning since i usually am more spontaneous with my card designs, but i think the extra effort was worth it.

If you would like a handmade card sent to you this christmas, email me at jkelee@gmail.com with your home address.
